Staten Island, NY—One worker is battling to save his arm after an accident at the Moran Shipyard on May 18. Rescue teams rushed to the shipyard located at 2015 Richmond Terrace in Port Richmond around 2:30 p.m., after receiving a call that an industrial accident took place, injuring one employee, as reported by Staten Island Live.
Authorities reported that an unnamed man was working with machinery on a boat at the yard when his arm became stuck. The worker reportedly sustained cuts to his head and serious injuries to his arm. The worker’s arm was described as “mangled.”
The worker was rushed by responding emergency medical services (EMS) to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton for treatment. As of last night, the worker was listed in stable condition.
Doctors reportedly told police officers that the worker is not likely to loose his arm.
Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to conduct a full investigation into the workplace accident.
Officials are withholding the identity of the victim, and details surrounding the accident were limited.
