I am pro-firearms and I believe in the right to bear arms, but I don’t think making a gun a state symbol is appropriate. A state symbol is supposed to represent the state; and making a gun the "front-and-center" image of the state is probably the not best representing image. The bill's sponsor, Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman, said "the .45-caliber handgun is something that represents Utah."
