NC Teen Suffers Head Injury in Pedestrian Accident During Scavenger Hunt

Kannapolis, NC — A pedestrian accident involving two teenagers has left both of the teens inured—one seriously—while they were participating in a scavenger hunt in Kannapolis Sunday night, January 15, 2012. The accident occurred at 7:44 p.m. along Mount Olivet Road, between South Cannon Boulevard and South Ridge Avenue, reported WBTV.

Kannapolis Police reported that the teens were participating in a scavenger hunt, and were looking for clues when they located a clue and ran across Mount Olivet Road. One the other side of a road was a vehicle waiting for them.

The teens happened to run into the path of 54-year-old Kannapolis resident Deborah Davis Helms’ oncoming van.

A 14-year-old girl sustained severe head injuries, while the 15-year-old boy also sustained injuries.

Responding emergency crews rushed the injured teens to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast for medical treatment.

The girl is currently listed in critical condition with a severe head injury, while the male teen is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The Kannapolis Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the pedestrian accident.
